At Morning Star, we are active in mission service – both in Surprise and around the world. Taking the Gospel seriously means caring for others with time, energy, money and imagination. We have community service and workteam projects in which all ages can participate.
Locally, our mission activities include monthly collections for the Westside Food Bank and service times at the pantry. "Building for Books" is a used book sale we conduct at Starbuck's on Grand Avenue. The proceeds support Habitat for Humanity, and in the future, we plan to participate with teams building houses in the Valley.
Through our first annual participation in One Great Hour of Sharing, our members gave generously to fund assistance for disaster relief, refugee help and relocation, and hunger programs in the U.S. and abroad. The children participated by collecting the necessary items and assembling over 50 "Health Kits" for refugees in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Regular giving from our budget and special offerings are dispersed to hospitals, schools, refugee camps, and economic development projects around the world through the many, many humanitarian projects of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
One of the most active and direct mission projects where Morning Star is engaged is Nasaru Ntoyie (translated "Let's Save the Girls"), in Kenya, East Africa. Learn more about this vital work by clicking here.
